I was married 20 years and my stbx is looking for a lump sum payout equal to 10 years of alimony. I believe they are asking for a lump sum because they know they will be cohabitating/remarried within that 10 years and could lose their right to continue receiving alimony payment. Will a court force me to pay a lump sum amount which would be over 6 figures and consume virtually all of my liquid assets?
The court may award a lump sum of alimony, but I cannot predict the likely hood of any one case.
