# Alimony prior to physical separation?

My husband of 15 years wants a divorce. I have been a stay-at-home mom for over 14 yrs and just recently went to work FT this summer. Annually, he makes 2.5 x my income. We have agreed that me and the children will move out of the family home due to the fact that I don’t really want it. He has always paid all of the household bills. My salary buys gas, groceries and children’s misc. expenses. He is wanting me to start getting my own cell account and car insurance policy. Is it appropriate for me to ask for alimony at this time even though we live under the same roof? I moved into our upstairs guest bedroom over one month ago. I cannot move out until I save enough money to do so. Please advise.

If you are able to, you can negotiate all points of a separation agreement ([child custody](http://www.rosen.com/child-custody/), [child support](http://www.rosen.com/child-support/), [equitable distribution](http://www.rosen.com/property-nav/), and [alimony](http://www.rosen.com/alimony-nav/)) prior to actually physically separating. If possible to do so, I always advise clients to enter an agreement before actual separation.
