My husband and I have recently separated. We are trying to reach a separation agreement without lawyers. Is there a formula for calculating alimony in NC?

We have no alimony formula in North Carolina. Alimony is calculated by balancing many factors, including the supporting spouse’s ability to pay, the dependent spouse’s financial need, the standard of living during the marriage, the length of the marriage, and other factors (such as the ability of the dependent spouse to obtain gainful employment). We do offer an alimony calculator on our website to give you an idea, but keep in mind there is no formula or guidelines for alimony in North Carolina.
