Bank account liability

lived apart for five years, no legal separation, finances (bank accounts etc) always kept separate. Spouse (not a citizen) has returned to home country, and left all personal bills (store accounts, credit cards etc) unpaid. Even though I was never a co-applicant/co-borrower on any of these accounts, can a creditor make me legally responsible for those debts and freeze my personal bank accounts?

If you are not a cosigner or co-applicant on the lines of credit, you should not face liability for any debts he left behind. If you have not filed for divorce yet, I would go ahead and do so there is no risk of any future financial entanglement.
