Cancel Alimony

Alimony was originally intended for the financially “dependent” spouse to be compensated by the other spouse based on the income difference. The dependent spouse was then supposed to get more education and/or work experience to be able to make a decent living later in life. My ex has done neither.

My ex just inherited about $10 million. I have three years remaining on my alimony. Could it be canceled at this point?

If alimony is set forth in a court order, you may make a motion to modify alimony based on the substantial change in circumstances.

How would I quickly and inexpensively convince the court that she does have $ millions, and that alimony should be cancelled?

I cannot predict what the court would do in any case, or how long it will take for a case to get to trial.
