Child Support For Wealthy Parent

Hello.

I’m interested in know, as a resident of Charlotte, NC, what would the court generally do in cases of a parent with high income. Say the parent is a professional athlete that makes well over 100k per month. I’ve seen cases where celebrities and athletes had to pay the custodial parent from low to high five-figure payments per month. Is this how it’s done in North Carolina?

Child support is determined based on the best interest of the child as the high income makes the case “off guideline”.

So you’re saying NC’s stance is that the child rightfully deserves to live the same lifestyle as the wealthy non-custodial? Basically I’m asking is this how it’s usually done.

Yes, the court can consider the child’s standard of living.
