Division of assets

I know the law says the division is 50%/50%, but is there any way to ensure (or at least maximize the odds) that you get a particular asset in that division? If the face-to-face negotiation is at a stalemate over a given asset, is legal representation the only alternative?

Depending on the asset and the reasons that both parties want it, the issue may have to be left in the hands of a judge. You should have a consultation to discuss the marital estate and the particular asset to see if you can get a better understanding of your likelihood of success if you go to trial.
