Education Decision Making Conflict

Dad wants to move son down in Math. Son is making a solid C and improving with time. Son is entering 3rd quarter. A change like this will change his whole schedule. He is new to middle school so I’m concerned with changes this drastic. Dad and I are in complete disagreement to this change. I want him to stay in the current Math and he wants him to move down a level. How do we move forward? We are at a nasty stage now where direct communication is no longer an option. He says he is going to go to the teacher to have a conference. Should I do the same so she knows we have equal decision making authority? How do we move forward?

I would certainly make sure the teacher knows you would like a conference, and that the decision should be made jointly. Perhaps there is another solution like tutoring or afterschool study sessions that would be more beneficial that you can look into.
