I want to give my son my car when he turns 16. My wife and I have had the car for years. It’s a good car and it’s paid for but my son lives with his mother. What things do I need to address first? How should we handle insurance? Side note - I do not want his mother driving the car. She already wears some of the clothes and shoes my wife and I buy the children. How should I go about this?
If you would like to give your child the car you may do so, but unless your ex agrees, you will be responsible for the costs, including insurance . I would suggest that you keep the title to the car in your name. Practically speaking, there is nothing you can do to prevent your ex from driving the car.
