# I'm in NC, he's abroad

Hello!
Long and short of it…
Spouse immigrated here in 06/2011, we got married 07/2011, he returned to his home country 09/2011 with the intent to separate. It is time to file for a divorce!
This should be super uncomplicated. I’m an NC resident and (US Citizen), and have always been. No property. No children. He keeps his. I keep mine. We both just want this over.
Two questions:
Is UPS/FedEx/DHL an appropriate way to serve him?
If I get confirmation of receipt, does he have to respond? Or can I just wait 30 days and then move forward?

You need to make sure you get his signature showing that he received the package.
Whether he responds to the complaint is his choice, and you can proceed either way.
