My husband and his ex share joint custody week to week with the boys but they have not switched schools. We each moved to a school district on either side of the school district they were in prior to the separation/divorce. Since they live one week with us in one school district and one week with their mother in another school district, they agreed to use my husband’s business’s address (he owns a business) for all school related issues since it’s near the school.
I don’t know what the school district would have to say because it’s an unusual situation. This way they did not have to switch schools and it was less of a disruption to their lives.

I can tell from experience that the court does not like to hear cases involving a transfer of schools, they much prefer if the parents work this out on their own. It is just as difficult for a judge to decide what school is best for the children as it is for the parents. I would talk to your children’s mother and see if the two of you can reach an agreement on what school is in the best interests of your child.

Right now we have joint custody with an even 50/50 split of time. We still need to get this done officially but that’s another story. We have the child 2 nights every week and then every other weekend. We live in the same school district but about 12 miles from the school. Mom lives closer but it takes the same amount of time to get the child to school from her home by car or bus.
We are anticipating a time when we may need to adjust this schedule as this child gets older or is involved in other sports. Can we make a case for him to switch schools? If he was going to school near us it would take about 1/2 the time to get him to school. What are some of the rest of you doing who have joint custody?
