# Out of state custody order

Now, as to your question, yes, registering your court order here will allow you to enforce the order here. What specific concerns do you have about enforcement?

Hi Janet,
Thank you for your reply. Im specifically want to file the order for enforcement purposes. I am worried that my ex may not return the child at the end of visitation and have been told it would be beneficial to file the order there for enforcement. However, I do not want to give up jurisdiction in California. Can I file the order in NC for enforcement purposes only.

Greetings. First, make sure that you tell your ex in writing that you plan to enforce the order. Keep a copy of the order.
Now, you can register the order here in North Carolina for enforcement, but the process is rather difficult and I recommend that you obtain an attorney. Thank you.

Hello,
I live in Oregon and have custody of my son. My ex lives in NC and has visitation (summers and breaks). I am wondering if it would be possible and beneficial to register my court order in NC court. I have been told it would be beneficial for enforcement purposes but I do not want Oregon to give up jurisdiction.
