It is typically 40-50 days from the day the Defendant is served until the date the divorce is final. The Defendant could file a motion to extend time to respond to the complaint, but the Plaintiff is not prohibited from moving forward with the divorce.

Hello,

After the dissolution for marriage complaint has actually been filed, can a defendant use tactics in an attempt to delay proceedings, such as extensions, bringing in topics not germain to the original complaint?

How long can it really take from filing just for absolute divorce to actually being divorced, given the plaintiff is not asking to settle property, child custody or child support for the time being?
