Ok let me ask in this way. Since I used you folks to file separation papers (successfully) there in NC, will the NC Courts retain jurisdiction over the divorce proceedings if I have relocated to Nevada\>? I dont have the resources to hire a lawyer here since I used them all getting a separation and QDRO there. Here, I can file myself and get a divorce in under 6 weeks if NC doesnt retain the jurisdiction. If NC does retain jurisdiction, how can I get it transferred to here? I sure wish this was all over and done with ☹ !!! ---

Dear Allie: Greetings. No, in the situation you described, jurisdiction does not remain in NC in the manner it appears you understand jurisdiction. In order to file for divorce, you can file for divorce in North Caroilna if either party has lived in North Carolina for six months preceding the filing. You may also be able to file for divorce in Nevada if you meet their jurisdiction laws. Jurisdiction is a state by state analysis. I hope that helps. Janet L. I am in the process of signing a legal separation and Equitable Division of Property. I would like to know if you, or anyone can tell me if I move to Reno, NV (I plan to) would I be able to file for a more immediate divorce? Are the divorce laws there different than NC re 1 year wait? Thanks, A.[?]
