If I reach a settlement with my wife. Can I instruct my attorney to make the settlement brief, short, and to the point. I don’t want anything complicated or words that I don’t understand in the agreement?
You may instruct your attorney to draft the document as simply as possible, however there are many issues that must be addressed and some of those items may be in language that would be classified as “legalese”. You will need to have your attorney explain these items to you if you do not understand them.
How many pages is a settlment agreement. I would like it short and sweet. Can I have one like for 5 pages? We don’t have much.
It depends on the individual case. I cannot say how long your agreement should be without having represented you in the negotiations. I can say the shortest agreement I have ever drafted was 10 pages.
