What is the date that signals the end of the marriage for purposes of determining whether or not a dependent spouse is eligible for a share of the supporting spouse’s social security benefits? Is it date of separation? or date of divorce?

There is no legal separation in NC. I cannot comment on social security law because social security is governed by federal law, not state law. To ensure you get accurate information please visit the Social Security Administration website :[http://www.ssa.gov/](http://www.ssa.gov/)
