The only reliable manner to obtain complete and adequate legal advice is to consult with an attorney, fully explain your situation, and allow the attorney sufficient opportunity to research the applicable law and facts required to render an accurate opinion. I live in Harmony, but Statesville, Hickory, Yadkinville, Lake Norman, Wilkesboro, and Mooresville are the cities closest to me. I wouldn’t have asked, but I’ve already called the two lawyers that are on your site. A Mr. Hudspeth (Yadkinville), and Ms. Simon (statesville).I would like to reserve her services as a mediator, if I can ever get my wife close to that situation. Mr. Hudspeth said at this time, he couldn’t help me with this, but he did give me some great information, and wished me luck. I am seriously in doubt about my current lawyer and at present have called her requesting a meeting to discuss a plan, but haven’t heard from her. This is the 4th time I’ve called her in 3 weeks. Any information at all would be a great help.
Thanks again. In these two years, this site has been a great source of information as well as a reminder that no matter how alone I feel in this situation, there are other people going through the same things I am right now. I have read a lot of sites, and so far this is the best for complete information about divorce in North Carolina.

I have been on this site and read the wonderful advice you folks give.
I’m on my second lawyer, as well as my second year of separation, and so far, the papers have been ready to go to court for 2 months now, with no court date set for divorce, and there’s still equitable distribution to go through. My current lawyer doesn’t return my calls, will not give me information, and now wants more money. I’ve struck out twice with lawyers on my own. Can you folks give me a reference to a new hungry lawyer in my area who might actually return my calls ? I’ve done everything but beg for her to call back, have done most of the leg work on my case myself. I don’t want proceedings to last as long as my marriage (14 years).

Thanks guys. I still have faith in you.
