Equitable Distribution roadblock?

I am divorced as of last month but in the midst of a contentious equitable distribution battle–over splitting debt. I just found out that my ex lost his job and cannot even continue providing health insurance for our children. Would this put a halt to all equitable distribution proceedings? (We’re supposed to have our required financial settlement mediation in a few weeks.) That is, can his “I can’t afford it” defense carry greater weight now? He can’t get out of some level of child support, can he? The stress has increased!

His job loss should not delay ED, but may affect child support, if it has not yet been established.
