If both parties would like to keep the marital home and cannot agree on the matter can a judge force the sale of the home? Is that a “typical” solution?
Oftentimes in an equitable distribution trial a judge will order that the home be sold and the net proceeds divided, especially if both parties want to keep the home and/or both parties present significantly different values for the home.

There is no case law for this. The judge will make a decision on the distribution of the marital residence based on the evidence and testimony presented at trial.
