Not financially independence from family

If my ex isn’t financially independent from their family, can their family be held responsible for support and damages? Their family is also paying for their lawyer.

No. If two parties are married and one is a supporting spouse and the other is a dependent spouse, then the law states only the supporting spouse is financially responsible for the dependent spouse’s support and maintenance.

It is not the responsibility of the dependent spouse’s family to provide for their support and maintenance after separating from their spouse.
