I’m not sure how it is deeded, what should I look for? Both names are on the deed but other than that I’m not sure.

I found a copy of my deed and it reads “General Warranty Deed, made this xx day of May 2001, by and between Jack Doe and wife Jill Doe, Grantors, to Girlfriend Doe and Fool7460 Doe, unmarried, whose address 14 Help Lane, Hopeless, NC, Grantees”

Does it say that you are joint tentants with right of suvivorship?

There is no mention of joint ownership or survivorship

If both of you are on the deed and it does not state that you are joint tentants with rights of survivorship then you will need to do an action for partitition if you cannot agree on how to divide the equity in the property. I do not practice real estate law and cannot tell you exactly how much either of you will be entitled to.

My girlfriend and I bought a house together 6 years ago. We have no kids, separate checking, savings, vehicles and credit cards. She has moved out and it is time to take care of the house. I have paid all of the house payments, insurance, taxes and improvements fully from day one. Both names are on the deed to the house. What is she entitled to? We have no formal agreement on division of assets.
