Separation agreement

I sent my separation settlement request to my husband who said he went to his lawyer and PAID him to write it up legally (though he said he did not agree to everything that I asked for). I asked when I would be receiving the changes and his reply was he did not know and “you know how lawyers are”. We are going on week 2 since his visit (or said visit) and still nothing has come to me.

  1. How long does it take to have an agreement drawn up?
  2. Why would he have one drawn up if we have yet to agree on who gets what?

Thank you!

The length of time to draft an agreement depends on the complexity of the document and the attorney’s schedule. I would say anywhere from 1 day to 10 days.

Agreements are often drawn up as working drafts, or a proposal that goes back and forth between sides while working towards an agreement.
