I went back to school the past few years of our marriage and incurred $12,000 in student loans. Is she obligated to pay for half of the school loans?
While the debt was incurred during the marriage, more and more the courts are treating student loans as separate debt, especially when the student spouse is the one who will receive the benefit of the education (ie education occurred in the last years of the marriage).
