Alimony Calculation - North Carolina

How do you calculate Alimony in North Carolina?

  • 3 Chidren, Ages 11, 11, 9
  • Spouse educated but has stayed at home to raise children
  • Working Spouse Income - $150,000/year
  • Household Expenses (inclusive of all children’s activities, food, mortgage, insurance, etc.) = $5000/month

Thank you

Alimony is based on the reasonable demonstrated needs of the dependent spouse (needs which enable them to enjoy the same standard of living enjoyed during the marriage) and the ability of the supporting spouse to pay (after accounting for their reasonable expenses). There is no set formula.
You may find it helpful to read the alimony statues under the Alimony tab on the home page, we also have an informational video on Alimony on this site.
