Spouse has asked for divorce. HIs parents gave us the money to purchase property on which we built our house. Am I entitled to half the equity in the house and property? If so, how does this effect alimony?
Yes, you would be entitled to one-half of the equity in the marital residence assuming the money was a gift to the marriage.
Receiving one-half of the marital estate does not affect alimony. These are two separate issues and one does not depend on the other.
