Child Support Hearings - Testimony

Can a minor be allowed to testify in a child support hearing? My son’s mother is telling me she plans to have him speak. Our son is 17.5 years old. She has petitioned the court for a modification of support.

Thank you in advance.

Typically judges will not allow children to testify as the do not want children placed in a situation where they feel as though they have to take sides.

There is however no rule against a minor testifying in court so long as they are of an age where they are competent to understand what is going on and answer questions.
