Family owns our home

My husband bought the house from family for 300k before we were together and once we got married he put my name on the deed. My in-laws bought the house from us a few years ago because we fell on tough times and wanted to relieve us of a mortgage payment. They paid the remainder of what was owed on the house $180k. The house remains in their name to this date. I would like to sell the house, pay back my in-laws, and split the difference, but my husband will likely not agree to this. What are my options?

It sounds like the house was effectively sold back to your in-laws and that the deed is in their name.

Assuming the deed is in your in-laws’ names only, and not you and your husband’s names as well, then the house is no longer marital property.

Based solely on the information provided and the above assumption, you would not be able to sell the house if you do not own the house.
