If the question is whether he has to or not, the answer is no he doesn’t have to. But what he is on the hook for is that he is equally responsible for the payment just like you are. Basically the doctor or hospital can seek payment from either of you for the medical expense. In the eyes of the law you are one. After separation the answer becomes blurred.

So you can’t force him to pay the creditor but if he wants to protect his credit he may want to. Really, it all depends who the creditor pursues. You are both on the hook.
