Pre-Marital Debt

Am I responsible for pre-marital debt?

My husband was married to another woman when he suffered a heart attack. He accrued more than $100K in debt while married to her. He also accrued more than $40K in debt to the IRS in his previous marriage.

If he were to drop dead of a heart attack tomorrow (he’s already had one at age 55), am I responsible?

No, you would not be responsible for your husband’s medical debt that was incurred before your marriage to him or his IRS debt if you were not listed on the tax return.
