Relocating with Children within the State

My ex just dropped a bomb on me saying she was taking the kids and moving to another town 2 hours away. It is not out of state but what are the guidelines for moving within the state with or without a court order to do so?

What about my visitation? Would I be expected to pick my children up during the week on my designated days? She claims the move is for a job but this job was closer to home just last week when I was informed about it. The job is with a family member.

You should file for a modification of child custody based on a substantial change in circumstances. Although the ex hasn’t yet moved, she is telling you she is moving. That is enough for you to be concerned and file if you choose to. Without a court order in place, she can do move wherever she wants.
