I am approximately half way through my year-requirement of separation before filing for absolute divorce, and have a need to find a job out of state so I can help take care of my aging parents. I can maintain my home in NC as my address, and return frequently to care for the house…can my NC residency be challenged at the end of the year when I file? My position will be an intent to return to NC “full time” as soon as the situation with my parents has concluded.
It became moot…I have now moved, but the absolute divorce was granted just before I found and accepted the job. Still a few aggravating details to deal with, but my ordeal is now largely over.
