Social Security Distribution

Am I entitled to a portion of my soon to be ex’s social security? Is he entitled to mine? If I am entitled to his but I remarry, am I still entitled to his? We have been married for 16 years. What determines who is entitled to whose?

Yes, you may be entitled to social security benefits as an ex-spouse at retirement age, and vice versa. If you remarry, you will not be entitled to the social security benefits of your ex-spouse.

This is determined by federal law.
