What effect does the presence of adultery bear on a divorce?

NOT AN ATTORNEY, but it is my understanding that adultery has no effect on the actual divorce or proprty division. It comes into play as one of the factors for determining alimony if the case goes to court. I imagine that it may also have an adverse effect on child custody issues.

Dear timberman:

Greetings. Adultery does not bear on divorce - it only has an effect on alimony. If there is an economic component, it may have an effect on equitable distribution. Thank you.
