I had to move out abruptly out of my in-laws house where my husband and I lived together, it’s been almost a year and I was able to get some of my belongings but I keep calling my mother in law to set up a time to get my belongings and she’s never answers the phone or returns my voicemails. What can I do? My father in law is a sheriff so I’m nervous that there is something he can do to block any legal attempts to get my belongings
It is best to remove most everything you want when you leave. Usually provisions are made in a separation agreement to recover any property left at the marital residence. If you setup residence elsewhere you really can’t return to the marital residence without permission, or you may be arrested for domestic trespass.
