Change In Circumstances

I often see mention of how custody agreements can be modified only if there is a drastic change in circumstances. What exactly would that entail? If my boyfriend and I moved in together (even though he spends a lot of time with us already)? If we get married? Moving to another state? What exactly constitutes this “change in circumstances” that would instigate the possibility of a change in custody?

An out of state move, or a move that would make the current custodial plan are examples of a change in circumstance, as are a child entering school, or any other event that substantially changes the child’s life. Relationships and marriages of the parents are not in and of themselves a substantial change.
