I do not believe that it is legal to carry insurance on someone not related to you, regardless of health conditions. With the exception of COBRA, I believe that medical and life insurance must be canceled at the time of divorce or very soon thereafter…
It may be that the courts would make provisions for the husband to continue covering until the end of the year or whenever the policy is renewed, but I do not believe that it can be carried over…this may need to be discuss with his insurance company.
Generally, health insurance is an expense that the court will consider when determining alimony, however this will depend on the specific facts of each case.
