so i got a notice to take a deposition via certified mail. i have been told that i dont need to go to this deposition unless a subpoena is served. is this accurate? if so, how hard would it be for them to obtain a subpoena. this is a divorce case, i am neither plaintiff nor defendant, but friends with one of them and have been blindly accused of affairs etc. it’s one of those things where i dont mind going but don’t want to help out the other side and if i’ve already got it in my schedule and skip since there is no subpoena, i dont want to have to work it in on another day that won’t be as convenient for me

Service by certified mail is an acceptable form of service for the subpoena, you must attend the deposition.
