My wife has filed for a divorce in North Carolina, but I live in China now (We are both citizens of China). I do want to get divorce, but it does not seem that I stand a chance. So I want to know whether I can take the debt with me. It is a student load disbursed by financial institution in USA, and it has a co-signer, which is my close friend.

Dear gjbay:

Greetings. Yes, you can take your debt with you. If you have been legally separated for a year, there is not a way that I know of for you to avoid or stall the divorce in any meaningful way. Thank you.
