If your name is still on the deed you still owe the taxes. You need a seperation agreement detailing that your stbx will refinance the property to take you name off the deed. You need this before you file for divorce.

and remember once your divorce is granted you are barred from ever going back for ED.

Dear keeper11:
Greetings. YES - your friend is right. YOU MUST deal with all property issues prior to the divorce. Any money you save now by not having an attorney will surely be money, heartache, and credit issues that you will pay in the future.
NO - you don’t want to sign it over because you are still on the mortgage. If you sign it over then he can stop paying and you will still be liable and don’t even have a house to give them for the debt. Really think this through - is this something you should do yourself? Thank you.

I’m getting ready to file a do-it-yourself divorce thinking that it will save me money in the long run. A friend has brought it to my attention that I may still be liable for future property taxes on property that my husband and I owe jointly if I don’t get my name of the deed. I am not asking for any division of the property in my complaint, I just want my divorce and be done with him. My question is will I be liable for future taxes on the property after the divorce is final?? Will I need to sign it all over to him beforehand? I need some quick answers please, because I plan on filing my complaint this week. I look forward to any suggestions.
