ED questions

We are currently in mediation for ED of our property.

It was decided that an auctioneer/appraiser be hired to put a value on each piece of our personal property. For this appraiser, we were told that it would have to be somebody my STBX and I did not know…which seemed fair.

My STBX wants another appraisal on our home, and the attorneys agreed that it was OK if he chose an appraiser who was his “friend” (although I objected to it). They said as long as STBX was paying for the appraisal and that the values weren’t too overinflated, then he could do that.

This is unsettling to me. You would think that we would need UNBIASED appraisers for all property – especially the home which is the biggest asset. Who is going to say or prove that the values are “overinflated” or not?? If we have 2 appraisals that are valued WAY DIFFERENTLY, which or how do they choose which to go by??

If two appraisals come back with a large disparity the court can chose which appraisal most accurately reflects the value of the home, or can order another appraisal be done.
