Ending Child Support

You will need to file a motion to have your child support dropped.

Dear cooper:

Greetings. Child support is supposed to end automatically when your child reaches age 18 or graduates from high school, whichever occurs last. My suggestion though, since it is your money, is to contact child support enforcement just to ensure they understand when child support is supposed to end in your file. Thank you.

The response posted above is based upon the limited factual information made available and is not intended as a full and complete response to the question. The only reliable manner to obtain complete and adequate legal advice is to consult with an attorney, fully explain your situation, and allow the attorney sufficient opportunity to research the applicable law and facts required to render an accurate opinion. When we had one age out, they did not stop the support until we filed a motion. About the amount overpaid, we were told once it was paid to the mother we could not get it back. That was 2 years again and many letters to no avail. We finally said it was worth not dealing with the Ex any more and wrote that money off.

Dear tiredofit:

Greetings. They did not tell you the truth, because you can file a motion to get her to pay the money back to you. Letters will not work, but motions with the court will. Good luck.
