Dear bohica:

Greetings. No, I doubt that you were entitled to any portion of the house since it was purchased after the date of separation between you and your spouse. Good luck.

Ex purchased a home before the absolute divorce. I had filed a divorce from bed and board, but attorney dismissed it before ex bought a house. Suit was dismissed in October 2002 and ex purchased a house in January of 2003. Absolute divorce in October of 2003. I tried diligently to get attorney to address this issue. Nothing was ever addressed. I have gotten so badly burned in this divorce. Was I entitled to any claim on his house? It’s too late now. I have been just about ruined in this thing. Also, ex quitclaimed the marital house over to me prior to equitable distribution. I tried to explain to my attorney that the house was then a “gift” and I didn’t think it should even count as part of ed. My ex had actually “given” me the house before the case went to trial. No luck on that one either. This has been a disaster for me. A terrible, terrible mess with no one interested in looking out for my best interest. Just wanted as much $ as possible.
