If we're both at fault, is there "no fault"..?

My wife is trying to establish fault on my part, and is referencing all the things I have called her at one time or another during our fights.

I admit it: I’m no saint and I’ve said some bad things. This is a divorce forum, so who among us hasn’t ever spoken a nasty word in anger? I have no plans to lie under oath and deny my actions but believe me when I say she would dish it out just as much as (if not moreso than) I did.

Is that a valid legal defense?

In divorce actions spouses typically try to assign non economic fault to the other party when alimony is sought. North Carolina is a no- fault divorce state meaning that fault is irrelevant in the divorce action itself.
