How does one go about getting one’s own phone records (home phone)? Is a subpoena required?

Bill, if the bills are in your name, or you are co-account holder, you should not need a subpoena to obtain your phone records. Call the phone company and tell them that you need detailed billing information for all bills between “X” time and “Y” time. Sometimes if you’re asking for them to go way back, they could need some time to pull it together, but they should not need legal documentation - your request should be sufficient.
You should be able to retrieve the records by simply calling the company and aksing for them.
