My soon to be ex is saying we need to do a quit claim deed on the house we both own that he is keeping and on the car that I will be keeping. I am not familiar with this. Can someone please explain to me what this is and if I should sign it?
A quitclaim deed, transfers your interest in a piece of property to another party without making any warranties about the property, including your ownership rights. Quitclaim deeds are only appropriate for the transfer of land. To transfer a vehicle, you will have to sign the actual title and have a new title issued by the state.
