Sole Custody

Originally posted by Seagleson [br]I have Sole legal and Physical custody over my son and his father wants to get information concerning my son from his school and doctors. I have not given any information to him because I don't think that he will use it for any good reason. He just wants it because he doesn't think that I have good reasons for taking him to the doctor and doesn't want to pay his half so he want to talk to them. I don't see any where in the most current agreement that we have where I have to give him that information. I though that is what sole custody was where he can't get any medical or school records about my son. Do I have to give him the information he requests? If I were to give it to him just to get him off my back, can I go to the school and Doc and tell them not to release any information to anyone but me. What is the point of having Sole legal and physical if I have to share and get all things involving my son approved by him?

He lives in NC while my son and my husband live in AL. He has not seen his son in over a year. He just started to ask for the information because I asked him for half of a medical bill and he thinks that it is not unnecessary.

As the sole legal guardian you can determine who has access to this information and can restrict him from receiving it if you wish to do so. If you want him to reimburse you for the bills you should give him something showing proof that you incurred it, but it does not have to be the medical records.

You want him to pay for bills but not tell him what they are for? No wonder he has not paid. You don’t think he will use that information for anything good? Making sure the bills were paid would be a good reason. Would you pay for something if you didn’t know what it was for? I wouldn’t.
