Starting child support

Dear sub:

Child support never has to start, but can start whenever one party begins paying it or when the other party files an action for child support (through the child support enforcement agency or privately through an attorney). Someone can file for child support even before the date of separation. Best of luck.

I have been paying some child support via checks, cash and paying some of my wifes medical bills. But she has not filed for child support with the state. Can she now sue me for back child support?

Dear sub:

Yes, she can sue you for the minor child’s past expenses and prospective child support. My suggestion to you is to go to our on-line child support calculator and pay in accordance with the number it gives you, marking the check as “child support.” Best of luck.
