I am a step mother, who raised my step daughter for the last 5 years. I was the only mother figure in her life. I had to leave her father in July, and he is refusing any type of visitation with her. Based on statute 50.13-1, do I have any chance at all of gaining some partial custody of my daughter? Thank you for your help.
You can certainly file for custody, although preference is given to a biological parent unless there are factors present that would indicate it would not be in the child’s best interest to be in the care and control of the biological parent.
