The response posted above is based upon the limited factual information made available and is not intended as a full and complete response to the question. The only reliable manner to obtain complete and adequate legal advice is to consult with an attorney, fully explain your situation, and allow the attorney sufficient opportunity to research the applicable law and facts required to render an accurate opinion. The basic information provided above is intended as a public service but a full discussion with an attorney should be undertaken before taking any action.

My husband and I have been separated for 8 months now. We have both been Charlotte, Mecklenburg county residence for 1 year. We have no children or property between us. I want to file for an absolute divorce from him. We will be separted for a year on Oct. 1, 2005. I need to know the following:

  1. Do I need an attorney to file for an absolute divorce in Mecklenburg county?

  2. How much will an absolute divorce cost me if I file for the divorce myself?

  3. Will my husband and I have to appear in court at any time during the absolute divorce process?

Thanks for your response.
