Child support / gross income question

Hi,

I live with my girlfriend and she pays half of the rent (we had to take a bigger apartment to have enough bedroom for her son)

Would they count the half of the rent that my girlfriend pays and consider that as a “regular” gift, would they add that to my gross income ?

The guidelines specifically state: “Except as otherwise provided, income does not include the income of a person who is not a parent of a child for whom support is being determined regardless of whether that person is married to or lives with the child’s parent or has physical custody of the child.” So your income (which goes towards the rent payment) doesn’t count as income for your girlfriend. Cost of housing/rent/mortgage payments are not a factor in determining child support. The amount is calculated based on custody and income of the parents, not how much a parent spends on housing.
